Layers of a Fishhead

Taken from the diagrams of the human body that can be found in science books, these fishhead diagrams map out the systems of the body... er... head. The top layer is the epidermal layer. Painted in oil on rice paper. The second layer is the circulatory system. This was done with red ink and an Italian glass pen on velum. The third layer is skeletal. The bones were sketched, copied, and then transferred via acetone to a 100% cotton paper. The forth layer reads formal which was meant to mean figurative. As in the simplified image that is conjured when one thinks of fishhead. It exists in conception and is represented by a symbol of what it is, not its actuality. Ironically, the whole project was also figurative per that idea.
